Parc del Castell de Montesquiu
Montesquiu Castle Park is a natural area located in the northern part of the Osona region, in the subregion of Bisaura, within the upper basin of the Ter River. Covering more than 500 hectares, it blends lush forests, meadows, and gentle hills with significant historical heritage, most notably Montesquiu Castle.
Main Features:
Geography and Landscape: The park consists of gently rolling terrain, predominantly covered by forests of oaks, holm oaks, and beeches, particularly in the shadier areas. The meadows and grazing fields create a transitional landscape between the Vic Plain and the pre-Pyrenean mountains.
Biodiversity: The park hosts a rich and diverse fauna, including wild boars, foxes, beech martens, squirrels, and numerous birds of prey. Amphibians and reptiles can also be found in the wetland areas near the Ter River.
Historical and Cultural Heritage: Montesquiu Castle, documented since the 13th century, is the park’s most emblematic landmark. Initially built as a watchtower, it gradually transformed into a noble residence. Today, the castle is open to visitors and hosts exhibitions, cultural activities, and events.
Activities and Tourism: The park is ideal for hiking, cycling, and horseback riding. Several marked trails guide visitors through the area, including a path following the Ter River and routes leading to scenic viewpoints overlooking Bisaura.
